Library Services plays a critical role in advancing evidence based decision making and supporting a learning health system across Acute Care Alberta (ACA). As Director, Library Services, you will lead a provincially integrated service that supports clinicians, leaders, staff, researchers, and patients through equitable access to high quality health information and evidence services. Reporting to the Senior Lead, Quality Management & Improvement, this role offers a unique opportunity to influence how evidence is accessed, interpreted, and applied across a complex and evolving healthcare system. The Director acts as a trusted advisor and strategic partner within Quality Management & Improvement, contributing to system level priorities related to quality improvement, patient safety, innovation, and knowledge mobilization.

Services operates through a hybrid model with both virtual and physical service delivery and a geographically dispersed, multidisciplinary team. The Director provides leadership in a dynamic environment, balancing operational excellence, change management, innovation, and fiscal stewardship. This role includes accountability for a provincial service model, strategic and operational planning, people leadership, and a significant operating budget. Description
The Director, Library Services provides strategic and operational leadership for a provincially integrated library service supporting Acute Care Alberta and partner organizations. Reporting to the Senior Lead, Quality Management & Improvement, the Director is accountable for the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of high quality, equitable, and accessible library and evidence services delivered through both virtual and physical environments. The Director leads a multidisciplinary team and is responsible for developing and executing short and long term strategies aligned with organizational priorities.
Key accountabilities include service planning, workforce leadership, operational oversight, and fiscal stewardship, including management of a significant operating budget supporting library collections, physical spaces, and service delivery. The role requires strong collaboration with internal leaders, clinical partners, academic institutions, and external vendors to support knowledge mobilization and evidence based decision making across the health system. As a member of the Quality Management & Improvement leadership team, the Director provides expert advice and contributes to system wide initiatives that strengthen a culture of learning, quality, and safety.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Studies, Information Science, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of progressive management experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Demonstrated expertise in library science theories, practices, and service delivery models. Proven ability to lead, develop, and support multidisciplinary professional teams.
Experience in strategic and operational planning, including aligning departmental strategies with organizational priorities. Demonstrated experience with budget accountability and financial management, including managing competing priorities and resource constraints. Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external partners.
