Position Overview

Covenant Health, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Pediatrics, is inviting applications for a General Pediatrician to join the medical staff at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital (GNCH) in Edmonton, Alberta.

About the Opportunity

The successful candidate will join a collegial group of eight private practice pediatricians with admitting privileges at GNCH. The role offers a broad range of community pediatric practice, including:

Clinical Responsibilities

• Participation in the GNCH call roster, including:
• Newborn admitting privileges
• Consultation with NICU for neonates transitioning to home
• Daily rounds on nonassigned newborns the morning after call (typically 12-20 newborns) and ongoing until discharge
• Availability for consults from GNCH Emergency, Post-Partum, and community Public Health nurses
• Call expectations are 3-4 days per month within an 8physician call group.

Outpatient Responsibilities

• Join an existing private pediatric clinic and provide general pediatric outpatient care 3-5 days per week (specific arrangements made with clinic colleagues).

Teaching

• Provide inoffice teaching to medical students and residents.
• Teaching remuneration is provided through the Edmonton Pediatric Society Committee (EPSC) according to established rates.

Departmental Participation

• Attend monthly business meetings with pediatrician colleagues and departmental staff.

Academic Appointment

The successful candidate is expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Alberta. Appointment decisions follow a separate process within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Qualifications

Required

• MD or equivalent
• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
• Certification in Pediatrics (FRCPC) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
• Demonstrated commitment to:

Preferred

• Interest or experience in community pediatrics
• Subspecialty training complementary to community pediatric practice
