Geotechnical Instrumentation Monitoring Student

About the role

This position focuses on the process safety of large earth fill structures. You will work with the Geotechnical Instrumentation Monitoring team to collect data, perform maintenance, and ensure compliance with performance indicators. This is an on-site role that involves regular communication with stakeholders and attendance at team and toolbox meetings.

What you'll do

• Monitor the daily performance of various mine earth structures.
• Collect geotechnical measurements using instruments like slope inclinometers, vibrating wire piezometers, and shape accelerometer arrays.
• Diagnose, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation.
• Perform quality control on collected data.
• Drive off-road vehicles in all weather conditions.
• Manage instrument raises and abandonments.

What you'll need

• Current enrollment or recent graduation in an Engineering Technologist, Engineering, or Geology program.
• Ability to continuously carry 20 kg for 100 meters over rough terrain.
• A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening test.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Location & details

• Location: Albian Sands, Fort McMurray, Alberta.
• Term: Summer 2027 start (12 or 16 month duration).
• Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, with 12-hour shifts.
• This is a safety-sensitive position.
