Job Summary

We are looking for one Summer Student for our Edmonton team, to provide invaluable drafting and design support to our Infrastructure and Asset Management (IAM) department. Your role will encompass a variety of design and drafting tasks such as the preparation of floor plans, design sketches and requirements packages for various projects as well as adding to our building information database.

This opportunity provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Asset Management services and develop an understanding of our organization’s approach caring for and planning for the future use of our buildings.

In the role of an Architectural Summer Student, you will play a vital role in ensuring we have current and accurate information for all our building assets. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be utilized in maintaining accurate building records and assisting with various renovation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed site surveys to build accurate as-built drawings of existing properties in our real estate portfolio. This includes single family homes, multiplexes and office buildings
  • Develop and prepare design sketches
  • Work from sketches, notes and other input material to develop conceptual layouts for various projects as needed
  • Prepare scope of work documentation for smaller projects
  • Write and review specifications
  • Examine drawings for conformity to building code and errors
  • Review and add information to our current Asset Management System (ManagerPlus)

Requirements And Skills

  • Pursuing a 2-year Diploma in Drafting/Architectural Technology
  • Basic knowledge of the Building Code requirements
  • Computer-aided design (CAD)
  • SketchUp
  • AutoCAD
  • MS Office
  • Own or have access to vehicle as position will require some off-site work (mileage is reimbursable)
