Role Responsibilities

Fire Weather Network Crew Member role involves supporting the Technicians in maintaining and upgrading the real-time automated fire weather network. This network delivers data that adheres to standards set by the Canadian Forest Fire Danger rating system, the World Meteorological Organization, and Environment Canada. This data, retrieved through satellite and cellular modem connections, is crucial for timely and accurate data reporting is critical for evaluating and forecasting fire weather and fire danger conditions across Alberta.

As a Fire Weather Network Crew Member, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the site development, operation, and upkeep of the real-time automated fire weather network. This includes duties such as:

a. Assembling the trileg frame for the weather station,

b. Assembling the sensors on the weather station,

c. Preparing and maintaining the weather station site including mowing grass or clearing brush,

d. Pouring cement pads and footings for weather station equipment,

e. Shipping, receiving, inventory tracking and general labour for moving weather equipment.

  • Providing field support for the maintenance and troubleshooting of the Alberta Wildfire Lightning Detection System.
  • Providing maintenance and support for the radiosonde system.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma supplemented with courses related to the position assignment; or equivalent as described below.
  • All candidates must be 18 years of age or older as of March 1, 2026, or prior to their start date.
  • Position start date would be as soon as possible.

Equivalencies will be considered and candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
