Salary: $3,148.20 to $4,126.82 bi-weekly ($82,168- $107,710/year)
The Ministry of Affordability and Utilities is dedicated to keeping life affordable for Albertans by helping to lower the cost of everyday essentials, including utilities. The ministry also develops policies and administers programmes that ensure Albertans across the province have access to affordable, safe, and reliable electricity and natural gas.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead and support policy research, analysis, and development related to rural electric distribution systems and rural utility associations.
- Coordinate and contribute to integrated, cross‑ministry policy initiatives and represent the Rural Utilities Section on working groups and task teams.
- Prepare briefing notes, policy reports, presentations, and ministerial advice to support senior leadership decision‑making.
- Provide regulatory oversight and guidance to rural utility associations, including reviewing governance documents, bylaws, financial information, and legislative compliance.
- Support the administration of rural utility grants, including the Rural Electric Program grant to ensure timely collection of loans to protect the Crown’s interests.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders, including Alberta Energy and Alberta Indigenous Relations.
Qualifications
Required: University degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science or a regulatory‑related field with a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent as described below.
