This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day, with the possibility of extension.

Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at Enterprise Square.

Reporting to the Manager, Content Strategy, the Digital Content Coordinator works with a team to add and maintain web content on ualberta.ca for various colleges, faculties, departments and administrative units. This work involves laying out web content provided by designers as well as marketing and communications partners to create web pages following best practices in user experience and SEO. These tasks require knowledge of HTML and CSS, and the ability to use CSS libraries like Bootstrap 5 to create well-designed pages that improve the experience of web users.

The Digital Content Coordinator is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and editing of top-level University of Alberta pages and pages owned by External Relations. These activities may include building new web pages, editing current content or redesigning existing pages based on user data and good content design.

The Digital Content

Coordinator also supports other CMS users by responding to support tickets and contributing to a knowledge base about using the CMS. They will also participate in implementing institution-wide standards to the university web environment, including improvements to SEO, accessibility, page performance, design and user experience. Therefore, the ideal candidate would not only have experience with web content creation, but strong demonstrable experience with website management and web page design using HTML and CSS.

The Marketing team delivers brand stewardship and marketing activities to strengthen the university brand by heightening awareness and visibility of the university and its story in local, national and international markets and building a comprehensive university reputation upon which recruitment, fundraising and partnerships, among other university objectives, can grow.

Web Content Management and Design (60%)

  • Design and update web pages using HTML and CSS, including utilizing Bootstrap 5 for responsive layouts that work on both mobile and desktop.
  • Collaborate with designers, communications partners, and content contributors to manage, lay out, and optimize web content based on best practices in user experience, SEO, and accessibility.
  • Regularly build, edit, and redesign web pages for various university units, focusing on improving page performance, responsiveness, and user engagement.
  • Manage and process support requests for updates and changes, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders and adherence to content strategy guidelines.

Institutional Digital Content Performance (20%)

  • Ensure content accuracy and timeliness through the use of CMS tools for scheduling reviews and updates.
  • Support large-scale projects to enhance the university's web environment, ensuring alignment with SEO, accessibility, and site performance standards.

Web CMS Support and Training (20%)

  • Respond to help desk requests from CMS users, providing troubleshooting support and guidance.
  • Develop and share help documentation and best practices for SEO, usability, and design with CMS users across campus to enhance web content quality.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from CMS users to propose improvements to the CMS and overall web environment.
  • A diploma or an undergraduate degree in digital media, communications, marketing or web design, or equivalent education in a similar field.
  • 2 years of combined experience in web page creation, web content management, SEO, and copyediting, preferably in a post-secondary or government environment.
  • Demonstrable experience building web pages and structuring websites using HTML and CSS.
  • Expert knowledge of enterprise Content Management Systems
  • Expert knowledge of best practices for web design, including responsive design, SEO and accessibility
  • Intermediate knowledge of CSS Frameworks such as Bootstrap
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics and other digital analytics/reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of Google Worksuite tools (documents, sheets, slides, Gmail, etc)
  • Working knowledge of photo editing tools to crop and compress images
