Outreach Yoga Teachers

The Yoga Association of Alberta

The Yoga Association of Alberta (YAA) is seeking YAA Certified Teachers to lead outreach classes for multicultural, Indigenous, women-serving, newcomer, and other community organizations at various locations across Alberta.

Classes focus on gentle movement, breathwork, and relaxation, with modifications offered to support safe and accessible participation for beginners, seniors, and individuals with limited mobility.

These classes are offered through YAA’s Community Connections Yoga Tour and Community Well-Being Yoga Tour, two grant-supported outreach initiatives funded by the City of Edmonton and Alberta Blue Cross. The programs bring beginner-friendly, trauma-informed yoga directly into trusted community spaces, helping reduce barriers such as cost, transportation, unfamiliarity with recreation settings, and concerns about feeling welcome or included.

One-time “Try It” classes offer participants a welcoming, low-pressure introduction to yoga and physical activity, with a particular focus on women and equity-deserving communities that have historically faced barriers to participation in organized recreation.

Instructor Requirements

Instructors must be YAA Certified(opens in new tab) and carry a minimum of $2 million in liability insurance. Priority will be given to teachers from BIPOC communities (where possible) and those with some trauma-informed training (available through the YAA). Chair yoga experience is an asset.

Compensation: $60 per class, plus a $10 travel allowance.

Interested teachers are invited to email [email protected] with their qualifications, areas they are willing to travel to, and general availability.

Know a non-profit or community group that could benefit from a free introductory yoga class? We’d love an introduction!
